It might surprise you that for some people, April is more associated with the environment than taxes. April 22 is Earth Day (and the entire month is Earth Month) and this year 1 billion people in 190 countries will come together to push for action on climate change and support the 2014 theme, Greener Cities.
If this hasn’t been on your radar, you can still take part in all of the social media traffic #EarthDay will generate with a little thought and planning, either by simply writing a blog post highlighting your company’s green initiatives (and of course promoting that post on your Twitter feed using the #EarthDay and #GreenerCities hashtags) or by piggybacking on other, larger campaigns. If your company currently doesn’t have a green initiative, share how you’ll help the environment on Earth Day using the Top 10 actions provided by Earth Day organizers and ask your followers to share theirs.
One campaign you can encourage your followers to take part in is NASA’s Earth Right Campaign, which it will be promoting through its #GlobalSelfie initiative. It’s encouraging people to go outside on Earth Day and take a selfie so they can create a mosaic using all the pictures tagged with that hashtag. You could have your employees stand outside your business’s location holding the sign NASA is providing marking your location.
If you want to support something more local, visit the Earth Day Canada site to see what events are happening in your city or region that you can help promote and engage with.
And of course let us know how you celebrate Earth Day!
