Withrow Park August 1–7
2pm / 7pm Nia Movement Workshops with Martha Randall
Music by DoubleTooth
230pm / 730pm Dance Performances
Dusk Dances is a lovely non-profit organization that brings dance to the people by performing in public parks throughout the city. This season kicks off at Toronto’s glorious Withrow Park the first week in August and, once again, Dusk Dances founder and creative director Sylvie Bouchard has created a stellar lineup of original acts (Get an introduction to Dusk Dances .)
If you’ve never experienced this charming festival, prepare for an enchanting evening al fresco. As the sun begins to set, audiences are taken to five different locations around a park to watch a fun and creative selection of dance. People bring their families and friends, even their dogs! It’s unlike anything else in the city.
I love to arrive early, stretch out on a blanket with a picnic dinner and just enjoy the band, followed by the original dance performances in the twilight on a beautiful summer’s eve.
I encourage you to do the same. It’s great family fun or perfect for date night. Withrow Park is tucked away behind Toronto’s Greek Town between Logan and Carlaw, about two blocks south of the Danforth. BYOB (blanket)!
DNA has been a proud sponsor of this event for many years and hope to see you there!
The festival runs in Withrow Park August 1–7. Suggested donation is $10. For more information, visit Dusk Dances’ beautiful new website (designed by DNA, of course!)
If you’re feeling peckish before or after the performances, why not stop by Pantheon Restaurant for some saganaki (fried flaming cheese) and krasi (wine)?! That’s likely where I’ll be! 🙂
