I have three teenagers. Mostly that means I find it very hard to keep food in the house. But it also means I try daily to respect them as the people they are choosing to be.
I was a teen in the 80s and recall it as a particularly ghastly experience. (Does anyone remember being a teen and enjoying it??) The Eighties now seems like the most awkward of decades. Like the era itself was going through growing pains. Nothing like the chilled 70s or the cool 90s.
My teens are much more self-possessed than I ever was at their age. It’s true for most of their friends, too. Maybe it’s because they’re so connected to everything and everyone through social media.
I thought the same thing while watching a video recently about a new program by Starlight Canada for hospital gowns called Ward + Robes. The organization partnered with clothing designers to create hospital gowns that allowed teens to express their individuality. I was so impressed with how well-spoken the teens were and love that they can now show their true colours, even while wearing a hospital gown.

One of our clients, The Scarborough Hospital (TSH), also adapted their hospital gowns recently, providing patients with an option to wear a robe with pajama pants. No more open-backed gowns! It was part of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to better serve patient diversity.
DNA worked with TSH to develop branded material for its diversity and inclusion efforts, including this beautiful report. Plus, TSH was selected as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2016 in the “Canada’s Top 100 Employers” competition!
