Feedback is an important part of any creative relationship, especially during the review and revision process of a design campaign.
Once the DNA team completes the initial design of your project, you’ll be provided with mockups, or concepts, to review with your team. The review and revision process allows clients the opportunity to carefully review and critique the design in order to provide feedback for changes.
Clarity, understanding, and communicating these changes effectively are keys to a successful design review cycle.
Here are some tips on providing feedback that gets the work done faster, yields better results, and keeps the project on track:
1. Give feedback early.
2. Gather all comments and ideas from your entire team to provide consolidated feedback.
3. Mark up PDF documents using the comment tool. (Not sure how this works? No problem! Read our post about how to use Adobe Acrobat!) Remember, when providing feedback:
- • Be specific. Specific comments make the revision process more efficient. A comment such as, “Layout is too cluttered. Can you simplify?” provides more direction than, “I don’t like this.”
- • Be honest. Don’t beat around the bush! Voice your concerns and provide reasons why. We’ll understand and won’t take it personally. What we care about is if the design meets your business goals and how your audience will respond to it.
- • Define the problem, not the solution. Avoid feedback such as “Make it bigger,” or “Move this here.” Rather, address the problem (e.g., “People won’t see it”) and then allow for designer freedom, knowing the issue will be fixed
- • Provide examples, if possible. Sometimes it’s hard to verbalize what you want, so provide examples to help explain what you’re looking for.
- • Ask questions. If the design doesn’t make sense to you, ask for an explanation.
4. Allow sufficient time for design revisions. Be respectful of the time required. Don’t take a week to gather feedback and expect changes the next day.
Following these suggestions will help the review and revision process proceed smoothly and efficiently.
