My fave cocktail this time of year is a strawberry margarita. I’ve been picking my own strawberries out in Cobourg (but there are plenty of places, although the season is typically June-July – raspberries are ready now and they are good too) and freezing them for my morning smoothies and my nightly margaritas. So because I picked them and they are in season, I consider them healthy 🙂 If you’re not up to picking your own, of course the frozen, no-name frozen strawberries are just fine. But not that frozen stuff in the cans with ingredients you can’t even pronounce.
Maria’s Strawberry Margarita
Pre-chill your glasses in the freezer then rub the rim with a wedge of lime and dip it in sugar (or salt, your preference). Put them in the freezer for at least one more hour. This step is not really necessary but it will impress your friends!
Ingredients (Serves 4):
– 3 cups of frozen strawberries
– 1 cup good tequila
– 1/4 cup Cointreau or Triple Sec
– 2/3 cups freshly squeezed lime juice
– 2oz agave nectar (or to taste) (can be replaced with honey or simple syrup)
Directions:
– Throw all the ingredients in the blender and let it rip for a good 3-4 minutes or until smooth.
– Divide them equally into the four pre-chilled glasses. I like big glasses! 🙂
– Garnish with a slice of lime or a sliced strawberry.
Voila! A perfect bevvie to sip on the patio while you relax on the long weekend. Enjoy!
